Country music legend Alan Jackson broke some healing hearts when he released his ballad “I’ll Go On Loving You” back in 1998 as the lead single off his album High Mileage. The song with rich, guitar-based instrumentals with a hint of percussion peaked at No. 3 in the United States, and No. 2 in Canada.

Alan Jackson’s More Sensual Performances Of All Time

Written by Kieran Kane, “I’ll Go on Loving You” is a romantic, musical expression of Alan Jackson’s never-ending love for a woman and his promises that he will be faithful, “long after the pleasures of the flesh.”

“When I look into your soft green eyes, when I see your delicate body revealed to me as you slip off your dress – I’m reminded that what I feel for you will remain strong and true, long after the pleasures of the flesh. And I’ll go on loving you,” the song begins. The man in the song intends to still love his woman even after any intimate moments between them, contradicting the thought that he is just lusting after the woman.

Indeed, “I’ll Go On Loving You” was one of Jackson’s more sensual performances of all time – a little bit of a stretch from the usual type of material that he was known for. Alanna Nash of Entertainment Weekly even once described the classic song as “the frankest treatment of lust on country radio,” “a colossal embarrassment,” and “a memorable romantic declaration.”

Another aspect of this song that set it apart was when Jackson started the track reciting the verses instead of singing them. And much to everyone’s surprise, an even bigger step outside his country borders was a second, Portuguese version of the track, “Vou Seguir Te Amando,” with música sertaneja artist Leonardo of Leandro e Leonardo in 1999.

Its Unique Music Video Made The Song Even More Special

The music video for “I’ll Go On Loving You” made the song even more special. Directed by Steven Goldmann, the short clip was filmed in sepia tone. It featured various underwater dancing shots followed by various shots of Jackson and a string band performing the song during a water ballet performance. Jackson then disappeared in the end.

“I’ll Go On Loving You” is definitely a timeless song you’d want you to enjoy! Check out Alan Jackson’s poignant performance below.
