1. The Boys of Fall by Kenny Chesney

From: Hemingway’s Whiskey (2010)

“The Boys of Autumn” is a heartfelt homage to high school football. Kenny Chesney expressed that upon his initial performance of the song, he immediately felt a deep connection to it as its theme is something close to his heart.

He added that the song perfectly captures the profound impact of high school football on those who love the game. To this day, the iconic hit still resonates with football lovers everywhere.

2. Waiting All Day for Sunday Night by Faith Hill

Faith Hill lent her vocals to Sunday Night Football as she sang the show’s opening tune, “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” – the song that welcomed viewers to the network’s football broadcast. It was set to the melody of the 1988 hit, “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” by American rock band Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

3. Tennessee Orange by Megan Moroney

From: Lucky (2022)

Megan Moroney took the country music scene by storm with her debut single, “Tennessee Orange.” The catchy tune finds Moroney telling her mother that she’s fallen in love with a Tennessean boy who is a University of Tennessee football team fan.

Interestingly, their family comes from the rival, the University of Georgia Bulldogs football team. So, she asks her mother not to tell her father and assures her that she still roots for the Bulldogs.

4. Friday Night by Brantley Gilbert

From: A Modern Day Prodigal Son (2009)

Brantley Gilbert fully captures America’s football tradition in “Friday Night.”  In the song, Gilbert describes small-town life whenever it’s Friday night, with the city looking like a ghost town and all the stores being closed down as they prepare to cheer for their team.

“This ain’t no game around here. It’s more like religion,” the song goes.

5. All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight by Hank Williams Jr.

From: Major Moves (1984)

While this legendary hit is not exactly about football, Williams performed a version of the song as the opening theme to Monday Night Football from 1989 to 2011. Williams would change the lyrics every week and customize it to the matchup. The lyrics also varied from year to year.

All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight is absolutely a testament to the enduring connection between country music and football, ensuring that all the rowdy friends gather to make a game night unforgettable.
