Even in crazy times like these, Travis Tritt’s “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive” reminds us that there are actually countless reasons to celebrate and be thankful.

Tritt released the song in 2000 as the second single off his album Down the Road I Go. It then reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart while peaking No. 33 on Billboard Hot 100.

Written by singer-songwriter Darrell Scott, “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive” is a feel-good song that encourages us to enjoy being alive even when things might not be going out our way.

It was originally recorded by country singer Jon Randall in the late 1990s for his album of the same name. But for some unknown reasons, Randall’s version did not make it to country radio. There’s also Scott’s version which was released as a single for his 1997 album Aloha from Nashville.

Since then, “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive” has been covered by multiple artists. This includes Country-rock group The Sky Kings, who included their version of the song on their 2000 compilation album From Out Of The Blue.

But then again, “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive” only became a big hit when Travis Tritt released his version.

It is even considered a fan-favorite among Travis Tritt songs. In a filmed concert at the famous Tivoli Theater in Chattanooga nine years ago – sold as a DVD called Live & Kickin’ – Tritt brought the crowd to their feet the moment he blurted out the song’s opening line.

Each time the camera turns to the audience, you will see every single person singing to every lyric.
