In 1989, country superstar Ronnie Milsap released one of his greatest hits, “Houston Solution,” as part of his album Stranger Things Have Happened

“Houston Solution” depicts many events in Milsap’s life. Although he grew up in a relatively underprivileged household and had a congenital disease that almost made him blind, Milsap still had quite a great childhood with his grandparents and friends back home.

So, as we dive right into the song’s meaning, we’ll find out how “Houston Solution” is quite relatable to not just the listeners but Ronnie Milsap as well.

Meaning Behind the Song

Written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz, the song is simply about a man longing to go back home to escape the harsh reality of working in the real world

In the song, the writers’ reference Nashville as the place the protagonist wanted to escape from. Since Nashville is renowned for being the home of country singers, it is easy to say that the song somehow connects to Milsap’s life in some ways – and how he may be longing to get back home to his family.

In the song, the protagonist went on to state that although running away from our problems is not good as it may hunt us down one day, for the time being, the only solution he could think of is going back to his old town, Houston.

Considering many people are struggling to cope with how fast-paced the world is today, the song immediately became a hit as many listeners could relate to its meaning. Landing at no. 4 on the US Hot Country Songs (Billboard) and no. 12 on Canada Country Tracks (RPM) – making it one of Ronnie Milsap’s greatest hits

Longing for the comfort and warmth of your home on a busy week is normal, so if you want to relax and just have a fun weekend, listen to Ronnie Milsap’s amazing performance of “Houston Solution” below.
