Charlie Rich has been known for his single “Behind Closed Doors” because this was his very first song to reach number one on the Billboard chart. However, “Behind Closed Doors” is not the only single that reached the top of the chart. Let’s not forget his single “The Most Beautiful Girl.”
“The Most Beautiful Girl”
In 1973, Rich released another single from his album Behind Closed Doors. “The Most Beautiful Girl” was a favorite by many that it went straight up to number one on various charts in the US. Some of the charts it has entered were the Billboard Hot Country, Adult Contemporary, and Hot 100 chart. In addition, it was gold-certified by RIAA.
The Song’s Story
“The Most Beautiful Girl” was written by Bill Sherrill, Norro Wilson, and Rory Bourke. The song is about a man who was thinking of the wrong things he did to his girl and wished that he didn’t do it. One day when she was gone, he felt that his world has torn into pieces, and he wanted people to know if they ever see her, may they tell her that he misses her and feels sorry of whatever he has done.
Hey, did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world?
Singles from Behind Closed Door Album
Rich released his single “The Most Beautiful Girl” together with his signature song “Behind Closed Doors.” Both were outstanding recordings of Rich, from his Award-winning album, Behind Closed Doors. Rich also released his song “I Take It on Home” as a single. The song reached number six on the Billboard country chart in 1972.
Different Versions
The song was actually first recorded by Norro Wilson in 1968, but it was not successful. When Rich released his version, many artists were interested in making their own. Engelbert Humperdinck, Slim Whitman, and many more covered the song. The song was even translated to the Swedish language and recorded by Anni-Frid Lyngstad of ABBA.
