Dolly Parton has broken her silence following the death of her husband, Carl Dean, with a heartfelt message of gratitude. The country music legend took to social media to express her appreciation for the outpouring of love she has received, calling it a “love note” to those who have reached out with condolences.

Dean, who was married to Parton for nearly 60 years, passed away on March 3 at 82. A deeply private man, he remained out of the spotlight while supporting his wife’s legendary career from behind the scenes. Now, as Parton mourns the loss of her beloved husband, she is leaning on the support of family, friends, and fans.

Dolly’s Emotional Message to Her Fans

On Thursday, March 7, Dolly Parton shared a statement on social media acknowledging the overwhelming kindness she has received since Dean’s passing.

“This is a love note to family, friends and fans,” Parton wrote. “Thank you for all the messages, cards and flowers that you’ve sent to pay your respects for the loss of my beloved husband Carl. I can’t reach out personally to each of you, but just know it has meant the world to me.”

She ended her note with a deeply personal sentiment, referencing one of her most famous songs:

“He is in God’s arms now, and I am okay with that. I will always love you.”

This is the first time Parton has publicly spoken since announcing Dean’s passing. In her initial statement, she reflected on their decades-long love story, writing:

“Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love that we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”

Her latest message clarifies that she has found comfort in the love sent her way.

A Love That Defied the Spotlight

For much of her career, fans were captivated by Parton’s relationship with Dean—not because they saw him often, but because they didn’t. Unlike many celebrity couples, the two rarely appeared in public together, and Dean never attended industry events with his famous wife. It wasn’t because of trouble in their marriage—quite the opposite. Parton always made it clear that Dean had no interest in fame.

“A lot of people say there’s no Carl Dean, that he’s just somebody I made up to keep other people off me,” Parton joked in an interview with the Associated Press in 1984.

But Dean was very much real, and their love was the foundation of Parton’s life. She often spoke about how their differences kept them strong—she thrived in the spotlight, while he preferred the quiet life.

“I married a really good man, a guy that’s completely different from me,” she told Parade in 2015. “He loves to hear about the things I do. I love to hear about the things he does. So we enjoy each other’s company. We get along good.”

Though Dean stayed out of the public eye, the couple found ways to enjoy life together away from the cameras. In a rare glimpse into their private world, Parton once shared that they often traveled in an RV, taking road trips and having quiet picnic lunches together.

“We stop and I’m not totally in my rhinestones. I put on little makeup for my husband, I usually have my own hair, just put it up in a little scrunchy or something,” she told E! in 2023.

Dean may have spent his life avoiding the spotlight, but his love and devotion to Parton never wavered. Now, as she faces life without him, she is holding onto the memories of their nearly six decades together—and finding strength in the kindness of those who have reached out.

Parton has not announced any plans to return to public appearances or performances. Still, she has a major project on the horizon. Her life story is set to hit Broadway in 2026, with a first run in Nashville later this year. Fans are eager to see how much of her love story with Dean will be woven into the musical. Still, one thing is sure—his influence on her life and career will never be forgotten.
