Trace Adkins highlights Americans’ spirit of hope and resilience through his newly released music video for “Somewhere In America.” The short clip premiered on July 7 and has pulled on the heartstrings of many as it tells the story of the tornado-ravaged Mayfield, Kentucky.

Directed by Mike Stryker – who also produced the music video alongside Andrew Rozario – the inspiring clip opens with Adkins stopping by a makeshift memorial in downtown Mayfield where the courthouse used to be.

It then explained how the devastation occurred on the night of December 10, 2021, when an EF4 tornado ripped through Mayfield and Graves County – causing catastrophic disaster. However, even though the tornado’s path may have taken 24 lives and destroyed thousands of homes, the resilient spirit of Mayfield’s citizens remained untouched.

The remaining part of the music video is packed with concert footage from Adkins’ “Somewhere In America: A Concert for Mayfield,” last May 20 at Mayfield High School’s CFSB War Memorial Stadium. The benefit concert aimed to help with the restoration efforts and “help the folks of Mayfield smile.”

It is then weaved with shots of rebuilding efforts underway in the region and touching footage of community members working closely together and extending much-needed help to a neighbor next door, perfectly illustrating what it means to be an American in times of struggles and difficulty.

It was revealed that Adkins and his team had spoken with several survivors in town while shooting the music video. The country star hopes that the music video serves as a pat on the back, letting them know that people out there have never forgotten about them.

In addition to that, Adkins hopes the viewers will be inspired by the resilience shown by the people of Mayfield, Kentucky, who lost everything. “I hope everyone will see a glimpse of the goodness of the citizens of Mayfield,” the singer said. “They are good people who are clawing their way back from a catastrophic disaster.”

A Song In The Face Of Adversity

“Somewhere In America” appeared on Trace Adkins‘s widely acclaimed album, The Way I Wanna Go – which features twenty-five songs, including collaborations with fellow country stars Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton as well as rappers Snoop Dogg and Pitbull, in celebration of Adkins’s 25th anniversary in the industry.

It was written by Zach Crowell, Michael Hardy, Jon Nite, and Hunter Phelps, as it reminds listeners that there are still people with indomitable spirit and resilience “somewhere in America.”

While they could have picked a lot of places, Adkins believed that no place better exemplified the song than Mayfield. “Mayfield is representative of all those communities that have had to come together in light of these terrible storms,” he said.
