Dolly Parton recently took to Instagram to express her grief when she heard about Naomi Judd’s passing. According to the country music icon, she and the late singer were close friends who shared a lot of similarities – their age, their zodiac sign (both Capricorns), and their love for big hair, the makeup, and of course, the music.
Though the two never really made music together, their paths definitely intersected at some points in their career. The Judds covered Parton’s “Coat of Many Colors” in 1979 on the Ralph Emery Show, and in 1995, Parton made an appearance on the mini-series Naomi & Wynonna: Love Can Build a Bridge. And just very recently, on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, Naomi even talked about Dolly and their friendship. The late singer revealed that she had actually seen Dolly naked and that she wears a butterfly tattoo.
In her message, Dolly also said that she has always loved Naomi and her two daughters, Wynonna and Ashley and that all of them were like sisters to her. She also went on to congratulate Wynonna for being inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame and also to apologize for not being there. She also lovingly added if Naomi were there, she would definitely tell her, “Oh well, a day late and a Dolly short.”
Naomi Judd, one-half of the vocal duo The Judds, died last Saturday at 76. The family has already issued their statement and asks for privacy as they grieve through her untimely death.
