If you need a song about sweet revenge, then Gabby Barrett’s ‘I Hope’ got you covered. Forget about forgiving and wishing your ex-lover well, as Barrett’s debut single gives you a more accurate response to a cheater.

Produced by Ross Copperman and Zachary Kale, ‘I Hope’ was a song the singer released in July 2019 under Warner Music Nashville. She brainstormed with her co-writers Zach Kale and Jon Nite as part of her debut studio album Goldmine.

Critics like Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic have high praises for the whole album as it is said to touch different demographics in a whole new level.

Also, the record-breaking single was originally planned to be about a woman suffering from a breakup but still wants to wish her ex a happy life. Well, that went down the drain when the American Idol finalist turned it the opposite way. She made it into a sweet revenge song that, honestly, everyone can relate to.

It’s a breath of fresh air from the usual themes we hear on the radio and country music streams. Maybe that’s also why it peaked to No. 1 on different charts, including Billboard Canada AC, Billboard US Country Airplay, and Billboard US Hot Country Songs. The same goes for the year-end charts of US Hot Country Songs 2020 as it took the top crown.

Meanwhile, American mainstream singer-songwriter Charlie Puth sent a message on the rising-to-fame country singer via Instagram praising her and asking to do a remix of the song. The funny thing was Barrett thought he wasn’t real but still agreed to his request.

After he finished adding his own vocals and making it more of pop music, the song became the biggest crossover of 2020 and catapulted it to the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. It totally dominated worldwide charts and streaming services in Belgium, Iceland, and even Romania.

Gabby Barrett‘s ‘I Hope’ was an outstanding debut single of 2020, which received in the 54th Annual CMA Awards the Country Music Association Award for Single of the Year nomination, among many others. Collaborating with Puth also helped conquer the mainstream music scene to whole new heights.
