“Like a rhinestone cowboy, riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo.” Do those lines ring a bell? Yes! It is the top hit “Rhinestone Cowboy” song. But who did it better? Was it Dolly Parton or Loretta Lynn?

The song “Rhinestone Cowboy” was originally sung by the country-rock singer, Glen Campbell.  The album was released in 1975 and as of August 2017, a total of 368,000 downloads were sold in the United States. Due to its top hit popularity, numerous covers among other country singers were released.  These notable covers include Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton’s.

In 1984, “Rhinestone Cowboy” was used as the basis of the film “Rhinestone.” Dolly Parton was one of the main cast and it was in the film where she sang her version. Successively, “Tennessee Homesick Blues” and “God Won’t Get You” also topped the country singles on the same year.

Their Iconic Charisma as a Performer

There is no denial that Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn are among the queens of country music. They both possess warmth, confidence, and love for what they do. Also, both have made their own iconic brands that made the fans go gaga over them. Going back to the days of glitzy suits, nude suits, and big hairdos to the present time, one would surely be harried to choose one over the other musically.
