Sammy Kershaw Proposes “National Working Woman’s Holiday” for Hard-working Women

The song is a great dedication for all the hard-working women out there. The song simply proposes a special holiday for women as stated by Sammy Kershaw. The lyrics say it all. He believes that women are working too hard. With this, he recommends that women should take a break and have a “National Working Woman’s Holiday.

Moreover, the song is one of Sammy Kershaw’s Top Ten Songs on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. On the other hand, the song peaked at the number two spot on the said chart in 1994. Sammy Kershaw only has one number one which is “She Don’t Know She’s Beautiful.” Besides “National Working Woman’s Holiday,” he also placed “Third Rate Romance” at number two position. “Cadillac Style” and “I Can’t Reach Her Anymore” reached number three. Meanwhile, “Meant to Be” at number five, “Queen of My Double Wide Trailer” reached number seven. Lastly, “Haunted Heart” placed at number nine and “Anywhere but Here” reached number ten.

National Working Woman’s Holiday…

Roger Murrah, Pat Terry, and James Dean Hicks pooled resources for the words and lyrics of “National Working Woman’s Holiday.” It was part of Sammy Kershaw’s album “Feelin’ Good Train.” It was the same album that provided us his other top charting single “Third Rate Romance.”

Sammy Kershaw recorded and released “National Working Woman’s Holiday” on June 28, 1994. It has been twenty-four years since its release. Nevertheless, the message of the song is still relevant in today’s society. Women need to balance their lifestyle, their family, and their career.

As mentioned above, the song peaked at number two spot on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart on August 6, 1994. It spent a total of twenty weeks on the said chart.

Sammy Kershaw was discovered by becoming an opening act to the legends Ray Price, Merle Haggard, and George Jones. He distributed his demonstration tapes to different recording labels. Then, Mercury Label signed him as a recording contract. He released his very first album “Don’t Go near the Water.” The album became platinum. After that, Sammy Kershaw released more singles and albums.
