In 2011, Kip Moore‘s “Somethin’ ’bout a Truck” climbed the chart, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, making it the only single in the country singer’s career to reach that peak so far. The song was also his first and only top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 29.

Released as the first single from Moore’s debut album Up All Night, it was certified 2x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after selling more than two million units in the country.

The Story Behind The Song Goes Back To Moore’s Wilder Years

Written by Kip Moore with Dan Couch, “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck” are words straight out of the singer’s life. After thinking about his youth, Moore wrote the song and realized how owning a truck had once helped him pick up girls.

Moore’s first car was an Isuzu Stylus, and it was passed down to him from both of his brothers, which he said, “was far from being a chick magnet.”

Going back to his wilder years, Moore was dating an older woman who’s not very much fascinated by his Isuzu Stylus. But on those blessed days, the old car would break down, and he would borrow his father’s Chevy Silverado. That’s when Moore saw that somethin’.

“After this one date, when I walked back into the house, I tossed the keys to my dad and said,’ Damn, Pa, there’s somethin’ ’bout a truck.’ My girl just wasn’t the same girl in the Isuzu as she was when I picked her up in my dad’s truck. It was like a whole ‘nother girl got in car with me. Or like a whole ‘nother woman came outta her. All the sudden, she was wild and vibrant,” Moore recalled.

Right at that very moment, Moore knew that a truck could change everything. It made him feel like a whole new person. “That Silverado sealed the deal for me. That’s how I got the idea for the song.”

“And there’s somethin’ ’bout a truck in a field. And a girl in a red sundress with an ice-cold beer to her lips. Begging for another kiss. And there’s somethin’ ’bout you and me and the birds and the bees. And Lord have mercy, it’s a beautiful thing. Ain’t nothin’ ’bout it luck, there’s somethin’ ’bout a truck,” the song goes.

Moore added that he’s pretty sure there are other guys out there who have lived the same scenario just like him. You can listen to “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck” in the video below.
