Barbara Mandrell is indeed one of the country’s most successful female vocalists of all time. She has placed a bunch of No.1 s on the country charts. Besides “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool,” “Sleeping Single In A Double Bed” is another single that boosted her career, in other words, one of her signature songs.

Kye Fleming and Dennis Morgan wrote “Sleeping Single In A Double Bed.” It was released in August 1978 and was part of her album “Moods.” Believe it or not, the song was Mandrell’s 26th top-charting hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs. It stayed at No.1 on the Billboard from November 4 to November 18, 1978.

Moreover, the song won an American Music Award for “Favorite Country Single.” In fact, the song and Mandrell shined at that time.

At that time when the song became No.1 one, it was a head-to-head fight with some of the most significant artists and their songs. These were “Anyone Who Isn’t Me Tonight” by Kenny Rogers and Dottie West. Another was “Sweet Desire/Old Fashioned Love” by The Kendalls and “Let’s Take the Long Way Around the World” by Ronnie Milsap.
