Ella Langley was talking with fans on Instagram Live when one of them asked her about Riley Green.
“When Riley took credit for your success on The Voice did that rub you the wrong way?!” the fan asked.
Country Chord reported that the Live came ahead of her headlining show at Red Rocks. Langley, 27, took a moment to read the question, and she did not leave anyone guessing.
“Yeah, when that man took credit, no, didn’t love that. But typical. Typical. Pretty typical,” she said.
She used the same word three times, and that word carried the whole answer.
The comment the fan meant came from The Voice, where Green, 37, is coaching for the first time in the show’s 30th season. During the blind auditions, he was talking with Ferryn & Brinkley, a sister duo who worked as performers at Dolly Parton’s Dollywood in East Tennessee. He told them, “I’ve had some success with duets.”
He said there was a “girl that reminded me a lot of y’all. I took her on tour with me. Her name’s Ella Langley. She’s doing pretty well.”
The sisters chose his team, and on the Oct. 6 episode they won his first Battle as a coach.
Fans had already been watching the two closely. The week before the Live, fans noticed Langley no longer follows Green on social media, though Taste of Country pointed out there is no proof she ever followed him in the first place. Langley once said of all the dating talk, “We’re not dating. We’re just good friends.”

Green has explained why her name comes up so often. On The Zach Sang Show, he said it comes down to the songs and the nights they shared onstage.
“I bring up Ella a lot because we had ‘You Look Like You Love Me,’ and ‘Don’t Mind If I Do,’ and she was on tour with me so we got to play two songs together every night for fans, and I mean, I could feel the excitement when she would walk out,” he said.
Not every fan heard The Voice comment the way Langley did. Some social media commenters applauded her for addressing it, while others said they didn’t believe Green meant to take credit for her accomplishments.
Ella Langley Went From Riley Green’s Opener in 2023 to a Headliner in 2026
On Sept. 8, 2023, Langley shared the poster announcing she would join Green’s Ain’t My Last Rodeo Tour as his opener. The two Alabama-born stars toured together again on his Damn Country Music Tour, which ran through mid-2025.
The songs came along the way. They first teamed up on “You Look Like You Love Me,” a viral duet from Langley’s own 2024 debut album, and it gave her a first Hot 100 entry, peaking at No. 30.

That same year they reunited on “Don’t Mind If I Do,” the title track of Green’s third album. Together, the two duets earned several awards, including Song of the Year at the CMA Awards and Music Event of the Year at the ACM Awards.
Then came a song with only her name on it. “Choosin’ Texas” spent double-digit weeks at No. 1, it was still on top after 18 weeks in August, and it helped her second album, Dandelion, debut atop the Billboard 200. In 2026, Billboard named her its Women in Music Powerhouse honoree, and the woman who once opened his shows is now headlining places like Red Rocks.

For a singer from Hope Hull, Alabama, that is a long way to travel from the opening slot.
Green told two sisters from Dollywood about a girl he once took on tour. That girl is headlining her own Dandelion Tour now, and when a fan asked what she made of his version of the story, Ella Langley needed just one word to answer, and she said it three times.
