Three weeks after Bryan Seaver stood in front of a camera to tell the world his aunt had died, he was reportedly told to hand over the keys.
Seaver, the son of Dolly Parton’s sister Cassie and the longtime head of security for the Parton family, received a termination notice on Wednesday, September 16, according to TMZ. The notice dismissed him and his security companies from every one of Parton’s properties, effective immediately.
Replacement guards reportedly took over the same day at her main home in Nashville, her museum, a downtown residence, and a warehouse. The Daily Beast reports that Seaver’s father, Larry, held the security role before passing it down to his son.
The Letter Revealed Who Is Running Her Estate
The termination notice answered a question nobody could answer when Parton died.
On August 26, no will, trust document, or probate filing had been made public, and it was unclear who controlled her assets. According to the letter obtained by TMZ, Parton’s properties and professional business interests are held by the DP Dean Trust, named for Dolly and her late husband, Carl Dean. USA Today reports the trust is overseen by her longtime manager, Danny Nozell, and Pinnacle Bank.
The letter also stated that Seaver’s removal from security duties does not change his personal interest in the trust. He remains a beneficiary of whatever it holds for him.
Seaver Is Accusing the Estate’s Managers of Bad Faith
Seaver responded publicly, and he did not hold back.
He and his team told TMZ they are “dismayed by the unexpected and, so far, unexplained actions” taken by Nozell and Pinnacle Bank since Parton’s death. They said they have been comforted by the outpouring of love for Parton around the world.
Then came the accusation.
“We remain unshakably resolved to fulfill her final directive to protect her family, and we refuse to be intimidated by those whose actions we believe are being taken in bad faith and with the intent to profit from the life of someone who willingly gave so much,” the statement read.
Those claims have not been independently verified. USA Today reached out to both Seaver and Nozell for comment, and neither Nozell nor Pinnacle Bank has responded publicly to the allegations.

Both Sides Say They Are Following Dolly’s Wishes
The dispute puts two people who were close to Parton on opposite sides, and each one points back to her.
Seaver says he is carrying out her final directive to protect the family. Nozell, in a statement after her death, described her as someone who spent years preparing for exactly this moment. “Ever the planner, Dolly worked with the team that she handpicked for the past several years to build a project roadmap that will guide us for decades to come,” he said.
Nozell managed her business for decades. Seaver guarded her homes and her person for years, and he was the family member chosen to tell the world she was gone.
“She never saw a door she couldn’t open,” Seaver said in that video on August 25.
TMZ describes the situation as an escalating war over her estate. What is documented so far is one termination letter, one sharp public statement, and silence from the other side.
Dolly Parton spent sixty years keeping her business private and her family close, and she set up trusts so the details would never end up in a courtroom. Less than a month after her death, the people she trusted most are disagreeing in public about what she wanted. The one person who could settle it clearly left instructions, and none of them have been made public.
