An Album of Classic Hits: “Rumor Has It” By Reba McEntire

In 1990, country superstar Reba McEntire released her sixteenth studio album, “Rumor Has It.” The album immediately made it to the charts, landing at no. 4 on the “US Top Country Albums (Billboard).

Aside from that, it also won the triple platinum award from RIAA for having a total of over 3 million album sales in its first year. Needless to say, “Rumor Has It” is one of McEntire’s best releases in her career.

According to a report by the American Songwriter, what made this album special for McEntire is that it is her first collaboration with record producer Tony Brown, one of the veterans in country music with over 100 million record sales throughout his career.

The album’s track consists of 10 songs, including “Climb That Mountain High,” and “Rumor Has It.” “Waiting for the Deal to Go Down,” “You Lie,” “Now You Tell Me,” “Fancy,” “Fallin’ Out of Love,” “This Picture,” “You Remember Me,” and “That’s All She Wrote.”

Among the songs in the track list, “Fancy,” “Rumor Has It,” and “You Lie” are considered Reba McEntire’s greatest hits. Because of these songs, the album immediately became a blockbuster in various countries, to the point that even in the following decades, it is still one of the most sought-after country albums of all time. 

30^th Anniversary Edition

Since the album was such a hit, Reba McEntire decided to release a special edition of the album that includes two bonus tracks for its 30^th anniversary in 2020: a new remix of “Fancy” by Dave Audé and a live version of “Fancy” recorded at the Ryman Auditorium that year.

Not every album stands the test of time, but Reba’s Rumor Has It proves that country music can still thrive in this modern age.
