Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real’s “Something Real” will give you a clear picture of why they are one of the best rock groups out there at the moment.

The blasting groove is shifting in and out at full speed while jams ease up and soar up once more as Nelson burns through a fiery guitar solo – begging for the woman he loves to give him something real.

“Something Real” was released in 2016 as the title track of their heavily-anticipated third album – though this is the first record they put out since they were introduced into a higher spotlight as Neil Young’s regular backing band.

The album contains twelve tracks that were mainly penned and recorded two years prior to its release. Since they recorded these songs in 2014, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real halt its release to work with Young for the legendary session of The Monsanto Years – released in 2015. It resulted in another collaboration: Neil Young + Promise of the Real’s Rebel Content Tour, wherein they also performed at the Farm Aid 30 and during the 29th Annual Bridge School Benefit Concert.

Adding the cherry on top, Young appeared as a guest vocalist on Something Real’s “San Francisco.”

But the best part was that the album has remarkably documented how this hard-working ensemble breaks new ground in all their current fame as performers and songwriters, as well as being the forebears of the style they depict as “cowboy hippie surf rock.”

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real is composed of Willie Nelson’s son, Lukas Nelson, along with bassist Corey McCormick, percussionist Tato Melgar, and drummer Anthony LoGerfo.
