Willie Nelson may be famous for being one of the most talented country singers in the history of music, but he’s also the proud dad to two talented sons – Micah and Lukas – who prove that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

In fact, the three released Willie Nelson And The Boys (Willie’s Stash Vol. 2) in 2017, where they performed a selection of country music standards and classics – including seven songs written by the legendary Hank Williams Sr.

They Gave Us A Glimpse Of What Happened During The Recording Session

Though it didn’t appear on their album, the outlaw country patriarch and his two sons shared a video where they performed one of the best Willie Nelson songs during the recording session – and it was none other than “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain,” which Nelson recorded for his 1975 album Red Headed Stranger.

But what’s more interesting was the personal story shared by Lukas Nelson, where he revealed that it was actually the first song his father taught him when he was just around ten or eleven years old.

“Was it really?” Willie Nelson asked. Sure enough, it was how Lukas learned the “E” chord.

Lukas remembered asking his father what he wanted for his birthday, to which the country legend answered that he’d be happy if he learned to play the guitar – and Lukas took that to heart. Now, Lukas is playing what he learned many years ago, along with a great memory and a nod from his proud father.

He launched to “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain,” a song about a fugitive preacher on the run from the law after killing his wife; Willie and Micah joined him in singing the harmonies on the chorus. Watch them perform in the video below.
