Bob Saget of “Full House” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos” is going to be in-charge of a roster of amazing country artists (Tanya Tucker, Jimmie Allen, and Deana Carter), comedians (Bill Engvall, Caroline Rhea, and Dusty Slay), and unexpected names (Gary Busey, Carson Kressley, and Marie Osmond).

At first, Saget was surprised when he was offered the gig.

“I said, ‘But don’t they want more of a country person? Don’t they want Jeff Foxworthy or Bill Engvall, my friends?’ They said, ‘No, we really want you, for your personality.”

CMT has ordered a new game show called Nashville Squares, which draws inspiration from the classic hit television show Hollywood Squares.

The game show puts actors, musicians, and other celebrities in the spotlight as both contestants and square-fillers. For the uninitiated: Hollywood Squares pits two contestants against each other in a game of tic-tac-toe — only the nine-square board is full of celebrities who pose questions and stand in the way of the contestants earning their X or O on their way to winning the game.

Nashville Squares will follow the same format, but with a country music focus. According to a press release, the game show will also feature “exciting musical moments, fun, and unpredictable competition, dance choreography from the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: All-Stars and much more.”

The former Country Music Television has green lit a total of 10 episodes of its new game show. It hails from Jesse Collins Entertainment, the same production company behind “Hip Hop Squares.”

Nashville Squares is set to premiere on Nov. 1 and air on Fridays at 8 PM ET.
