KT Smith Says Morgan Wallen Once Proposed With a $75 Ring in the JCPenney Lot and She Loved Every Second

Sometimes the most unforgettable love stories do not start on private jets or in five-star restaurants. Sometimes they start with a $75 ring and five spare minutes before work in a Knoxville parking lot.

That is exactly how it went down between Morgan Wallen and his then-girlfriend KT Smith, and if you ask her, it was just about perfect.

Long before Morgan was packing out stadiums and topping every chart in country music, he was just a boy from Tennessee trying to figure out life and love. And back in those humble beginnings, when he and KT were still navigating the ups and downs of their early relationship, he decided to pop the question in the most low-key and country-as-it-gets way imaginable.

KT recently opened up about that moment on Bunnie XO‘s D𝐮mb Blonde podcast, and it is the kind of story that makes you smile and maybe shake your head a little. More than anything, it paints a real picture of two people in love before the fame, before the chaos, and before the headlines.

KT recalled the day Morgan proposed like it was yesterday. There was no candlelit dinner, no big surprise, and no over-the-top Instagram reveal. It was just the two of them in a JCPenney parking lot, a Swarovski ring that cost seventy-five bucks, and a quick and no-frills question as Morgan asked, “Are we gonna do this or what?”

And KT was over the moon.

“I thought he hung the moon and the stars,” she said on the podcast. “Everything that he did, I was amazed by. I didn’t care about the ring. I would’ve taken a ring pop.”

For her, it was never about the price tag or the place. It was about Morgan, the boy she loved, asking her to be part of his life. That kind of honesty reminds folks what love really is at its core. It is messy, beautiful, spontaneous, and far from perfect.

Of course, life has taken them in different directions since that day in the parking lot. The engagement did not last forever, and eventually, they went their separate ways. However, they share a son now, five-year-old Indigo, and by all accounts, they have found a way to be strong co-parents and respectful friends.

KT admitted that while things did not work out romantically, she is proud of the way Morgan has grown. “He’s a great dad,” she said. “And I respect him more now than I ever have.”

That parking lot proposal feels like a snapshot of a simpler time. It was back when Morgan was still on the come-up, before the world had his name in lights, and before the whirlwind of fame could complicate everything. It is the kind of story that country songs are made of, full of rough edges, real emotions, and nothing but heart.

There is something about that kind of down-home authenticity that never goes out of style. And while KT and Morgan’s love story did not end with wedding bells, it certainly began with a whole lot of heart.

So maybe the next time someone tells you love needs a big budget or a viral moment, tell them about KT Smith and Morgan Wallen. Tell them about the JCPenney parking lot, the seventy-five dollar ring, and the girl who would not have traded it for the world. Because sometimes the realest stories do not come wrapped in diamonds. They come wrapped in memories that never fade.
