Sometimes even the strongest voices need a moment of silence.

Kelly Clarkson, the powerhouse who turned winning the very first American Idol into a two-decade career of chart-toppers, tours, and daytime TV, is reportedly stepping away from The Voice for season 29. The reason isn’t work fatigue or a career change, but something far heavier. She’s taking time to grieve the heartbreaking loss of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, who passed away earlier this month at just 48 after a long battle with melanoma.

According to insiders, Clarkson won’t be at the upcoming tapings, and production is now scrambling to bring in an A-list replacement to keep the show rolling. Names being floated? Country sweetheart Kelsea Ballerini, who has already filled in for Kelly in the past, and Miley Cyrus, who’s no stranger to spinning a red chair herself. Both would be headline-worthy additions, but the situation is less about star power and more about giving Clarkson the time she needs to heal.

“The show will give her whatever she needs,” a production source said. “Kelly is family, just like Reba. Nobody’s asking them to push through this pain.”

That mention of Reba McEntire makes the loss feel even heavier. Reba, who is currently coaching on season 28, is also mourning. Brandon was her stepson, but by all accounts, she saw him as her own. Reba has already missed tapings and may continue to step away as she processes what insiders have called the “biggest heartbreak of her life.” For a woman who has weathered it all in country music, that says plenty about the bond she shared with Brandon.

Clarkson and Blackstock were married from 2013 until their very public divorce in 2022. Together, they share two children, River Rose and Remington, who are now facing a new school year while also mourning their dad. Clarkson has made it clear that right now, her kids and their healing come before any job, even a juggernaut like The Voice.

Fans of the singer know she’s been through fire before, whether it was record label battles, personal heartbreak, or redefining herself post-divorce. But this loss cuts deep. Reports say she needs space to grieve privately, and NBC isn’t just respecting that. They’re bending around it. “They don’t owe the show anything right now,” one insider stressed. “Whatever Kelly and Reba want, the show will give them.”

In the meantime, The Voice is continuing to shoot seasons 28 and 29 back-to-back. Season 28 will premiere in September, with John Legend, Adam Levine, and Reba on board. Season 29, though, is now looking at a different lineup thanks to Kelly’s absence. The rumored replacements bring their own spark: Miley with her wild, unpredictable energy, and Kelsea with her relatable charm and deep country roots. Either way, fans will be watching closely.

But truthfully, no one can replace Kelly Clarkson. Her quick wit, her momma-bear energy, and that voice that can cut through any note have made her one of the most beloved coaches in the show’s history. She’s mentored winners, fought with Blake Shelton like a sibling, and carried herself with a mix of humor and grit that feels uniquely hers.

For now, she’s being allowed to step back, focus on family, and do what country folks know best: grieve, heal, and gather strength for the road ahead. And when she’s ready, you can bet she’ll come back swinging, with that big Texas heart of hers and a voice that refuses to be dimmed.

Until then, fans are standing with her, sending love, prayers, and the kind of support that reminds us that even our biggest stars are human.

Kelly Clarkson may be out of The Voice for now, but don’t mistake that for silence. When she returns, it’ll be with the kind of fire that only comes from walking through the storm and finding your way back into the light.
