In 2001, after eight years of not releasing any album, country singer Darryl Worley released “Second Wind” as part of his album of the same title.

The song instantly became a hit to many, landing at no. 11 on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles (Billboard) and no. 20 on US Hot Country Songs (Billboard) – making it one of Darryl Worley’s greatest hits after years of hiatus.

The overall feel of the song at first doesn’t feel country at all. With synthesizers, the song feels more like an early 2000 pop song—as the listeners thought. But as the song goes on, the chorus starts feeling more like a country ballad.

Although it doesn’t claim to be a gospel song of some sort, it is probably considered one of the country classics that help listeners heal their souls.

Wondered why? Well, let’s find out the answer to that as we dive into the meaning behind Darryl Worley’s hit song “Second Wind.”

Meaning Behind the Song

Written by Steve Leslie and Darryl Worley, the song is simply a reminder that no matter how hard life can become, it’s not too late to live a better life since a “Second Wind” will always come to find us.

It’s a song that gives hope to everyone. As long as we don’t give up, we can always gain control over our lives and find the peace we are longing for. The song’s meaning was so touching and relatable to many that even Darryl’s mother expressed her gratitude to her son for releasing such a beautiful song.

In an interview, Darryl Worley mentioned that when he released the song in 2001, his mother, who was suffering from cancer at the time, stated that “Second Wind” had “healing qualities” in that it gave people hope that something better was coming.

If you are looking for a soul to give you that extra push to move forward, listen to Darryl Worley’s hit song “Second Wind,” as it will surely help you in your healing journey.
