The Robertson family, known for their Duck Dynasty fame, has revealed concerning news about their beloved patriarch, Phil Robertson. On a recent episode of their podcast, Unashamed with the Robertson Family, his son Jase shared updates about Phil’s declining health. The 78-year-old reality TV star is battling the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, coupled with an unspecified blood disease that has wreaked havoc on his body.

The Health Struggles of a Duck Dynasty Icon

Jase Robertson spoke candidly during the December 6 podcast, offering a somber glimpse into Phil’s condition. “Phil’s not doing well,” Jase admitted. “Doctors confirmed he has a blood disease that’s causing widespread issues. On top of that, he’s in the early stages of Alzheimer’s. It’s been tough.”

The Robertson family has long been a beacon of resilience and faith, with Phil at its helm. However, the challenges of these dual diagnoses are significant. Alzheimer’s, a progressive neurological disease, affects memory and cognitive abilities. According to the Mayo Clinic, its early symptoms can include forgetting recent events and struggles with everyday tasks. Combine this with the complications of his blood disease, and it’s clear Phil is facing an uphill battle.

Despite his ailments, Phil’s determination to carry on shines through. Jase shared that his father, ever the outdoorsman and thinker, still wants to remain active, even contemplating a return to work. “I had to tell him, ‘Dad, you can barely walk without wincing, and your memory isn’t what it used to be.’ But he’s still Phil—he’s stubborn,” Jase added with a mix of humor and sadness.

A Family Rallying Around Phil

Phil’s diagnosis has prompted the family to come together in support, with each member contributing to his care and comfort. His sons—Jase, Al, Willie, and Jep—and his wife, Miss Kay, remain steadfast in their efforts to navigate this difficult chapter. The family also revealed that Phil’s daughter, Phyllis, has been involved in the effort to ensure his quality of life remains as high as possible.

“We’ve assembled a team of doctors,” Jase explained. “They’ve been thorough, but there’s no cure. It’s about making him as comfortable as we can.” The Robertson family’s faith, often the cornerstone of their lives and public personas, is undoubtedly playing a critical role as they confront this challenge.

Now, the Robertson family is focusing on ensuring Phil’s twilight years are filled with love and care. Jase mentioned ongoing efforts to improve Phil’s memory and ease his physical discomfort, but he was realistic about the limitations. “We’re doing what we can,” he said simply.

The Robertson family, true to their spirit, has taken the road ahead with grace and grit. While the challenges are immense, their faith and love for one another remain unshaken. Phil’s legacy—both on and off the screen—continues to inspire not just his family but the fans who have followed their journey.
