A surprisingly uplifting perspective to getting over a heartbreak, Jon Pardi’s “Heartache Medication” marks the California native’s third time earning No. 1 hit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart while it peaked No. 5 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Not only that but the song was also certified Platinum – both in the United States and Canada.

Story Behind The Song

Jon Pardi co-wrote “Heartache Medication” with songwriters Natalie Hemby and Barry Dean. It tells the story of a brokenhearted man who feels much better with the help of some alcoholic medication.

According to Pardi, they purposely made the song sound like a lot of fun so that it can pick you up whenever you’re feeling down or perhaps make you extra feeling good. It channels George Strait’s 1982 hit “Fool Hearted Memory,” so it is something people can dance to as well.

“I wanted a song with a feel-good old-school kind of swing to it,” Pardi said about the song. “It was kind of an oddball title. It’s about drinking — just not saying it’s beer. It’s a good T-shirt. It goes great on a koozie. And you can dance to it.”

And the best part is that it’s accompanied by a line dancing music video that scored a special guest appearance from his then-fiancée, now-wife Summer Duncan Pardi – along with Pardi’s dancing shoes. The singer admits that dancing was out of his comfort zone; still, he loved how the short clip came out.

Indeed, drinking your heartbreak away is the centerpiece of innumerable country songs, and “Heartache Medication” carried it out the best way possible.

Pardi released the song as the lead single off his third studio album of the same name, which was also nominated as Album of the Year at the 2020 CMA Awards. Have fun listening to “Heartache Medication” by Jon Pardi by playing the video below.
