Shania Twain ruled the ’90s country music with her hit songs “You’re Still the One,” “From this Moment On,” “Man, I Feel Like a Woman,” and many others. Her 1997 track “That Don’t Impress Me Much” is one of her hits in the ’90s that really cemented her status as a country star.

This sassy single from the singer draws inspiration from men who think too much of themselves. As the title of the track suggests, they don’t necessarily impress the singer because they don’t have what she is looking for.

Behind Shania Twain’s 1997 Hit Song

This country-pop song from Shania Twain might not have topped the country charts but it sure landed on the top 10 of the Hot 200 Billboard chart. Much of the success of the song is attributed to Mutt Lange’s production who made it sound more like pop music but still with a hint of country twang. The song made mention of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley and Hollywood star, Brad Pitt.

A lot of the listener speculated why Brad Pitt was mentioned, so the singer cleared up why she mentioned him. Twain explained to Billboard Magazine:

“I was writing this album and there was a scandal of Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow where there were naked photos of him. And this was like all the rage. I just thought, ‘I don’t know what all the fuss is about.’ I’m like, ‘Well that don’t impress me much, I mean what is all the fuss. We see people naked every day.’ That’s really what I thought.”

Lyrics Breakdown

Don’t get me wrong, yeah I think you’re alright
But that won’t keep me warm in the middle of the night

The song is sassy but it also sheds light on the idea that we only see the outside aspect of a person. As the song suggests, you can have all the great looks in the world but if you don’t have any connection to your lover then nothing will work. Good physical attributes are not really impressive when you don’t have something more than you can offer to a person.
