Country star Miranda Lambert and retro-soul singer Leon Bridges are turning heads with their new duet, “If You Were Mine.” The must-hear genre-bending collaboration blends Lambert’s signature country vocals with Bridges’ fan-favorite R&B style – and it’s something you can never resist.
“If You Were Mine” marks Lambert’s first release as a “free agent” after leaving her longtime label home, Sony Music Nashville, and is a follow-up to her critically acclaimed record, Palomino.

Written by Miranda Lambert alongside fellow Pistol Annies member Ashley Monroe and hitmaker Jesse Frasure, “If You Were Mine” centers around the bittersweet realm of unrequited love. It tells the story of a man and a woman sharing a profound connection and deep longing yet finding themselves separated by circumstances out of their control.
While Lambert didn’t personally know Leon Bridges before co-writing the soulful ballad, she had the singer in mind for the song. In a press release, she revealed they sent “If You Were Mine” to Bridges the moment they finished it, hoping he would want to collaborate.

“We were so glad that he said yes,” Lambert noted, adding that she’s been a big fan of Bridges for a while because of the authenticity in his music. In fact, Lambert said that she wouldn’t have released the song if Bridges had decided not to record it.
Meanwhile, Bridges said he was humbled to have Lambert asking him to join her on such a wonderful duet she co-wrote herself. He said it was such a magical time when they got into the studio to sing the song together. “There’s nothing better than two Texans on one mic,” Bridges said.
