Earlier this year, Carly Pearce and Dove-winning artist Matthew West released a duet version of West’s hit song “Truth Be Told” off his 2020 album Brand New. Trading verses and harmonizing over the song’s message of honesty and truth, this song definitely took on an even refreshing turn. Not only that, but it was also timely in a world where people often only choose to share the better parts or the so-called ‘highlight reels’ of their lives.

And for Pearce, this message was especially pierced. At the time, the country singer was confronting the pain of her divorce from her husband, Michael Ray, while discovering and exploring her truths in her album 29: Written In Stone.

Hillary Scott caught up with Carly Pearce in a special Christmas-themed episode of Country Faith Radio and asked her about her experience with her first-ever Christian collaboration and with the Matthew West no less.

A fan of Christian music and someone whose faith really plays a big role in life, Pearce shared that she has always wanted to do some kind of collaboration in the Christian world but believed that if it would happen, then it would happen at the right time.

And it sure did.

According to Pearce, West’s team reached out to her, saying that they were wanting a country artist to duet the contemporary Christian singer on his big song “Truth Be Told.” And as a longtime fan of Matthew West, she definitely couldn’t pass up on the opportunity.

But what really struck her in this collaboration were the lyrics of the song. Pearce confessed to Scott that when she started listening to the song, she just went on laughing because it felt like God was talking to her through the song. It was exactly what she had been living through every second during that time.

Pearce felt lucky and at the same time grateful to West for allowing her to be a part of such a wonderful experience. West, on the other hand, was also thrilled to have the country star join him on his song.

In a statement, West said that he had been a fan of Pearce ever since her first single, “Every Little Thing,” noting how honest the singer’s voice was that convinces everyone that she’s feeling every word that she’s singing. And that same honest vocal delivery that she brought to the song meant so much to him, and West definitely loved it.

You can listen to their duet below and catch up with Carly Pearce this Sunday, December 19, at 8 am PT / 10 am CT / 11 am ET on Country Faith Radio or anytime on-demand at apple.co/_CountryFaith.
