Hayden Panettiere’s official cause of death has not been determined.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said an autopsy was completed the day after she was found unresponsive. The examination showed no signs of trauma that contributed to her death. The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and additional studies, including toxicology results.
Panettiere, 36, was found at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 16, where she had been temporarily staying. A 911 call came in at 1:51 p.m. reporting a cardiac arrest. First responders and emergency medical services arrived and found her in cardiac arrest. They began advanced life support measures, but she was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m.

Coroner Mike Ellis released a statement confirming the autopsy results. No trauma was found. The investigation remains active and is being handled jointly with the Greenville Police Department. Officials have said there are no signs of foul play.

In 911 dispatch audio from the call, responders can be heard referring to a possible overdose while discussing the cardiac arrest. That language came from the emergency response and has not been confirmed by the coroner’s office as the cause of death.
Panettiere’s father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed her passing in a statement. He described her as an incredible light and a force of nature.
The official cause of death is still pending. Further test results have not been released.
