Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow Sing About The Pain of Broken Heart in “Picture”

In 2002, Kid Rock teamed up with Sheryl Crow for a beautiful yet heartbreaking duet, “Picture” – which was released as the fourth single off Rock’s album, Cocky. 

The song was a commercial and critical success. In addition to ranking No. 4 on Billboard Hot 100 while peaking at No. 21 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, it also earned a nomination at the 2003 Country Music Association awards in the category of Vocal Event of The Year. It was also Rocks’ first gold single.

“Picture” was indeed Rock’s first success in country music. Cocky was actually Rock’s first attempt at recording music that rounds the circle of country and blues. Other songs by Kid Rock found in the album are “Midnight Train to Memphis,” “Baby Come Home,” and “Lonely Road of Faith.”

A Sappy Duet You’d Surely Be Listening on Repeat

Written by Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow, “Picture” is a mournful tone about longing after a lover who got away.

“I thought about you for a long time, can’t seem to get you off my mind. I can’t understand why we’re living life this way,” the two talented artists sing, with their chemistry being just beyond compare. You can feel the connection between Rock and Crow, which makes the heart-wrenching ballad even more powerful.

But did you know there was another version of the sappy duet? Apparently, Rock’s label, Atlantic Records, failed to obtain permission from Crow’s label to release the two artists’ duet. So, Atlantic Records decided to rework the song with country singer Alison Moorer for commercial release. But for some unknown reasons, radio stations still ended up playing the original featuring Crow.
