God’s Problem Child and adored country outlaw, Willie Nelson has proven once again that speculations about his health were being blown out of proportion. Last Thursday of August 17 2017, Willie Nelson was back in his game after gracing the stage the Shrine in Los Angeles, California.
He also shared the stage with Kacey Musgraves and Kris Kristofferson singing a nostalgic medley of ‘Will the Circle Be Unbroken’ and ‘I’ll Fly Away.’
It can be remembered that Willie Nelson was on every headline after reportedly having breathing issues. It was then confirmed after he posted on his social media accounts informing and confirming the reports that he was indeed having problems with his breathing citing that the altitude might have got to him.
Prayers and messages of support rained Willie Nelson’s social media pages until it gave an update of Nelson still singing his heart out at the Shrine in Los Angeles, California. LA Times’ Mikael Wood who was also one of the audiences described Willie Nelson as an ‘infinite renewable resource’ at the Shrine proving that Willie Nelson is indeed well-recovered after his health mishap. To quote the LA Times writer:
“Nelson’s singing and guitar playing were so idiosyncratic, with such wild, unpredictable phrasing, that the music felt infinitely renewable; the noisy solo he played in “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys” totally undercut any sense that the song represented a bit of down-home shtick.
It’s not right to say that Nelson was defying age here. Indeed, what made the concert a thrill was that he was happily embracing his advanced position, emphasizing the grain in his voice and the internal logic of his slippery rhythm.
Don’t-give-a-damn can be a tough attitude to bring one’s audience along with, especially when the artist in question appears to have reason to start phoning it in. But Nelson somehow made it feel like a strategy for endurance.
Let us hope it works.”
Can we say ‘Amen’ to that? We certainly hope it works.
