Annie D’Angelo, the spouse of country music star Willie Nelson, has proved to be the perfect match for the legendary musician.

Willie and Annie met on the set of Stagecoach, a film in 1986. They got married on Sept 16, 1991, at St. Alcuin Church in Nashville. This was Nelson’s longest marriage out of the previous 3 marriages he had prior to D’Angelo.

It was not easy for Annie as she had to stand beside Willie through several drug arrests. Nelson also praised her devoted wife for standing beside him through thick and thin, leaving Nelson with nothing more to ask from other women.

As a devoted wife, Annie would always encourage Nelson to live healthier. The couple would spend time riding a bike and swimming together at their Maui, Hawaii home. Annie also helped Nelson manage his finances.

When asked how romantic he is, Nelson would describe himself as a hundred-percent romantic at heart.

Willie and Annie have two children, Lukas Nelson, and Jacob Micah Nelson. As Nelson got older, he believed that his abilities as a father and a husband have grown over the years. With age comes wisdom as they say.

Willie and His Past Relationships

Martha Matthews was Nelson’s first wife. Nelson and Matthews were married for a decade, from 1952 to 1962. Their marriage was not a fairytale-like marriage. It was a relationship filled with quarrels leading to violence. Eventually, it ended through a nasty fight where Nelson was beaten and Matthews ran off with their kids.

Shirley Collie married Nelson in 1963, a year after Nelson’s marriage with Matthews ended. Their relationship didn’t last long, either. Everything deteriorated after Collie found a bill in their home that was from the maternity ward of a Houston Hospital. This was addressed to Nelson and to a woman named Connie Koepke. Collie lost her amor for Willie and decided to leave after what she found out.

Later on, Nelson married Koepke. They had two children namely, Amy Lee Nelson after Paula Carlene Nelson. Nelson and Keopke would then again divorced in 1988.

“It takes a special person to live with me … I’ve got great wives, great kids, great-grandkids.” – Willie Nelson
