Hank Williams Jr.’s “I Think I’ll Just Stay Here and Drink”

In 2012, Hank Williams Jr. collaborated with Merle Haggard to sing the song “I Think I’ll Just Stay Here and Drink.” He included the song in his fifty-seventh studio album Old School New Rules. His album was released under the record label Bocephus. His recording with Merle Haggard did not make it to the Billboard chart. However, his album reached No. 4 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Also, it secured a spot on the Billboard 200 chart at No. 12. His only single from the album that made it to the chart was his song “Keep The Change.” The song reached No.14 on the Billboard Country Digital chart.

“I Think I’ll Stay Here and Drink” is a song written by Merle Haggard in 1980. He scored his twenty-sixth No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart with this song. The single became part of his album Back to Barrooms. Haggard’s album reached No. 8 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.

The Song’s Content

The song is about a man who is tired of his lover. Instead of being with her, he chooses to drink because he knows there ain’t gonna be anything good if he will be with her. Hank sang two verses of the song while Haggard sang only the second verse. They both sang together at the last verse of the song.
