Perhaps there’s no song that can melt our hearts as much as “When You Say Nothing At All.” It’s one of the most timeless and romantic country love songs that has stood the test of time. More importantly, this well-loved song was made possible by some of the biggest names in country music history.

Written by two of the most influential and cherished songwriting-team Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz, “When You Say Nothing at All” was originally released by Keith Whitley in 1988 and went all the way to the top of the country charts.

While his version has endured over the years and remained one of his biggest hits, it didn’t stop from becoming a huge success for another country star, Alison Krauss – whose version won Single of The Year during the 1995 Country Music Association Awards.

An Amazing Duet By Keith Whitley and Alison Krauss Was Made Possible

Sadly, Keith Whitley passed away less than a year after the release of “When You Say Nothing At All.” He died not knowing the Grand Ole Opry had a surprise invitation awaiting him just two weeks later. Truly, his death shocked and hurt everyone in the country community.

While Whitley collaborating with other artists has now become a thing we can only dream of, something amazing happened. Thanks to production director Mike Cromwell, he put together a duet of Whitley and Alison Krauss’ versions. He made it possible by blending parts of both recordings and making them sound like one.

And as expected, it gained so much attention from the country fans who were amazed by the incredible results. Whitley and Krauss’ voices coming together will truly send shivers down your spine.

You can hear it for yourself in the video below. Keith Whitley songs and his legacy truly live on through this recording.
