Who said you cannot be a Country Folk and a Game of Thrones fan at the same time? This is proven true by these two-film duo that consists of Benedikt Mendzigal and Daniel Brauner who branded themselves as BenDan Productions.[like_button]
Game of Thrones Opening Theme, Conception
Oh come on! By now, you do not need a lengthy intro to know that ‘Game of Thrones’ aka the bloodiest show in the HBO universe is getting all the hype as it already premiered its Season 7. Right now, there’s no excuse on how old you are because this show is definitely defying Television standards as well as age limit regardless of how gory or sexual it gets. Needless to say, you would either love to hate or hate to love the multi-Emmy winning show.
However, it is really interesting to note how the ‘Game of Thrones’ opening theme was conceived. Show-runners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss came to the musical genius of Ramin Djawadi. They were looking for someone who could compose an original track that would mirror the emotion and tone of every episode. At first, Djawadi declined since it conflicts with a current film he was working back then. However, after countless persuasion from the show-runners and his interest caught of the first few episodes, Djawadi finally agreed.
He explained how he managed to create the music that brings the familiar goosebumps every time we hear the opening sequence in an interview:
“I sit with David and Dan and we do what’s called a spotting session where we watch the entire episode and then discuss when music should start and stop. Everybody’s very involved with that. And it constantly gets played with. What I love about Game of Thrones is that the positioning of the music is so well done, because it’s not overdone. When the music cuts in, it really has something to say.”
Djawadi also singled out that he chose the Cello because it has a ‘darker sound.’
BenDan Productions, Game of Thrones Opening Cover
Benedikt Mendzigal and Daniel Brauner did not have any idea that their Game of Thrones Opening Theme cover would blow up to 3 million views. These German budding film makers were just doing a fan video to honor the greatness of Game of Thrones.
Using a subtle background, Ben starred in the video wearing that cowboy outfit while simply bringing the Wild West in Westeros using an electric guitar. What’s impressive about this video is its ability to transport Kingslanding to a country setting where the Starks could be a country family in Nashville. So where’s good ole Johnny Snow?
Game of Saddles everyone!
