Do you love walking? I do. Studies show that it is one best forms of physical exercise. Of course, walking is also a means, and for some, the only means of transport. Moreover, walking for whatever cause is more pleasurable with someone else. Walking coupled with talking is a great way to connect with family, friends and definitely, with God. We got to thank Mr. Hank Williams for crafting such a wonderful song reminding us every day to walk and talk with God.

Are You Walking and Talking with the Lord Like Mr. Williams? 3

The First People to Walk and Talk with God

Two bible verses speak of walking with God, not just the usual actions we often associate with spending time with God, like kneeling to pray and talk to Him.

Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more because God took him away.

(Genesis 5:24)

Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.

(Genesis 6:9)

The hymn’s point is that we should be doing two things at the same time. We do not just walk to exercise or travel. When we walk together, we are in communion with one another. Both Enoch and Noah were also in communion with God while doing something else. However, walking in was not enough, more so with David. In the Bible, Psalm 3:1-8, talks about David’s struggles and challenges. David walked with God, but it did not mean that everything was perfect. Then, what does this “Walking and Talking with The Lord” by Hank Williams’ song want us to ponder on?

As You Walk, You Talk To Everyone, To God

In my view, I also find walking as the best way to pray. Walking on your way to work or wherever you are headed gives you a chance to think about a lot of things. While you are in the middle of other things, you can still be in communion with God at the same time. Pray as you walk to the subway stations, bus stops, or even when you walk to work. Stop, pray, walk and talk to God between meetings during your day. Talk to that lady you bump into. Greet and have mercy to the homeless you pass by. Talk to Him as you walk. We all are the apex of God’s creation. God shaped us to walk in relationship with Him.

Lord, we pray for that you would help us to walk with you daily in the way of peace, with our head held high. That, together with Mr. Williams’ song of the reminder to walk and talk with you, may we be connected with Your guidance and spirit.
