During the auditions for the 12th season of The Voice, an aspiring contestant from California named Brennley Brown turned heads and stunned the audience with her amazing vocal talent. The young and beautiful aspiring singer performed Stupid Boy, only to leave two of the reality show’s judges to turn their chairs and vie for Brown to choose either of them to be her coach.
Her intriguing yet powerful vocals led Brown’s audition to be among the crowd’s favorite for the 2017 blind auditions. In YouTube alone, her audition video is close to reaching 3 million views. In addition, her extraordinary stage presence radiated throughout her performance. After her performance and as the judges began to interview her, they were surprised to learn that Brown was only 14 years old. She shares that she was inspired by country artists like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, The Highway Men, and Faith Hill.
Next, Alicia Keys and Blake Shelton had to battle it out to determine which judge Brennley chooses as her coach. Blake was so particular about Alicia’s lack of knowledge and background in country music. He was also all no-holds-barred after he pointed out that out of the four judges, he was the best bet that Brennley had if she truly wanted to launch a successful career in country music.
Meanwhile, Alicia Keys tells Brown that she was around the same age as Brown’s when she first started her music career. She adds that she understands that hardships faced by a young woman artist—something that Blake would find it hard to comprehend. The renowned singer also reminds Shelton and Brown about her recent ACM performance, to which the contestant positively affirmed. Alicia Keys told Brown,
“I don’t want you stuck in a box.”
Blake retorts that he has never been a guest at a country concert because he is the country concert. In the end, Brown chooses Blake as her coach.
