Unforgettable Moments at the Academy of Country Music Awards 3

It’s the Academy of Country Music Awards once again. One of the most prestigious award-giving bodies in the country music. The ACMs were the very first big program that celebrated country music, and since the debut, they have changed and even moved cities over the years. Famous country stars will gather and expect to have a bunch of essential affairs, unforgettable moments, and outstanding performances.

The event will once again take place in the MGM Grand’s Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the Academy as announced in December. The 2018 show will air live on Sunday, April 15 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET on CBS.

But before the event on Sunday, let’s recollect the memories of yesterday’s AMC.

ACM Awards in 1972

Freddie Hart was the night’s massive winner in 1972. He took home “Single Record of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” “Album of the Year,” “Top Male Vocalist of the Year,” and “Entertainer of the Year.”

Brooks and Dunn got the most ACM wins

They began making music together in 1990 and started gaining ACM Awards soon after they bagged a total of 29 trophies. They currently hold the record for the most ACM wins and have won “Vocal Duo of the Year” a whopping 16 times.

Loretta Lynn won “Female Vocalist of the Year” (1974)

The “Coal Miner’s Daughter” was the woman of the night at the 1974 ACMs. Loretta Lynn earned the “Top Female Vocalist of the Year” award.

Charlie Rich lit the ballot on fire (1975)

He announced the nominees and then announced John Denver as the winner. And then he lit the ballot on fire.

Loretta Lynn: First “Female Entertainer of the Year” (1976)

Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, John Denver, Mickey Gilly, and Lynn were all vying for the trophy, and when Lynn’s name was announced, the audience went crazy, with a standing ovation and thunderous cheering. This was the time when she won the award the second time.

Kenny Roger’s suitcase full of ACM’s (1978)

Rogers won the major awards that evening. He won “Male Vocalist of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” “Album of the Year” and “Single Record of the Year.”

Foster Brooks Comic Act (1979)

The 1979 Academy of Country Music Awards fetched the laughs. Foster Brooks did an entertainment act that had the audience giggling.

George Jones’ “Top Male Vocalist” (1981)

In 1981 ACM Awards, George Jones won the “Top Male Vocalist of the Year.” He thanked his ex-wife.

George Strait’ Top Male Vocalist” (1986)

He won “Vocalist of the Year” for the second consecutive year. Strait also brought home “Album of the Year” for “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind.”

Alan Jackson’s ACM Awards protest (1994)

The singer went casual with a Hank Williams shirt. He was asked to do his performance on a track in a lip sync, so he told his drummer to play without his sticks.

When Reba stalled a little for time (2004)

Reba McEntire had to stall a little for time.  While the stagehands were searching for a guitar, she and Dick Clark had to use their improvised skills to keep the crowd entertained.

The Significance of George Strait’s 56 (2008)

George Strait proved that he’s the “King” during the 43rd Annual ACM Awards. That year, Strait turned 56 years old, and he also earned his 56th No. 1 hit. In 2008 he performed that 56th hit during the ACM.

This video shows George Straits’ milestones at ACM over the years.
