A country tune crafted by songwriter Mark Alan Springer, “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane” is a hit song for country music artist Tanya Tucker. Released in September 1992, it became her first single from her album Can’t Run from Yourself.

Unraveling the Story Behind the Song

On behalf of Springer, Tucker revealed the story behind the song which became a hit in the ‘90s. “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane” narrates a simple story of how a strong bond of love and respect can protect a relationship no matter what storm it may go through. No matter how many hardships may arise, still, a couple’s relationship can withstand all of these with love and respect, especially with the presence of God.

In the same sense, the song also tells the story of a young couple in their teenage years. Eventually, they got married when they reached adulthood. Moreover, “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane” speaks of destiny that this couple has ended up marrying each other. Life does not end there. Their relationship is challenged by many factors. Nevertheless, through thick and thin, the couple survives all the storm brought to them by life. Until their old age, they are still together clinging to their love and respect of each other. Most importantly, their love is protected by their faith in the Lord.

Popularity of the Song

“Two Sparrows in a Hurricane” does not just tell a colorful story. As a matter of fact, after its release, it immediately went to the charts in 1992. To note, the song clinched the second spot on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in that same year. Also, its music video became a hit. It did not only feature Tucker herself, but also her two children as well as her mom and dad.

Indeed, Tucker deserves such appreciation and acclaim from fans. The song, together with its message, is undeniably worth listening to. As such, I will leave you with the chorus of this beautiful tune.

Like two sparrows in a hurricane
Trying to find their way
With a head full of dreams
And faith that can move anything
They’ve heard it’s all uphill
But all they know is how they feel
The world says they’ll never make it
Love says they will…
