On July 2, 1991, Trisha Yearwood released her self-titled album that soon paved the way for her stardom in the country music scene. Trisha Yearwood’s lead single She’s in Love with the Boywent straight to No.  1 on the country chart. That made the Georgia native an instant superstar and the first female artist with a debut single to top the chart. Three other singles from the album reached Top 10. “The Woman Before Me” and “Like We Never Had a Broken Heart” both landed on the fourth spot while the song “That’s What I Like About You” peaked at No. 8. Moreover, the album itself almost topped Billboard’s Top Country Album chart. While it missed reaching the chart’s summit, it settled on the second spot. Reaching sales of two million copies, the album eventually received a double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. Also, the album’s success helped Yearwood earn her first ACM Award for Top New Female Vocalist.

Additional Album Info

There was a total of 10 tracks recorded on Trisha Yearwood. Some of these have been covered by other artists including Yearwood’s friend and now-husband Garth Brooks. The song “Victim of the Game” was originally recorded by Brooks on his 1990 album No Fences. However, it was never released as a single for Yearwood. Another country artist, James House, first recorded the No. 4 song “That’s What I Like About You” a year before Trisha Yearwood’ was released.

Meanwhile, the second single from the album “Like We Never Had a Broken Heart” was recorded as a duet with Brooks. This makes it fit for Brooks to sing on Yearwood’s debut record as she also provided background vocals on his eponymous album. As they were friends back then, Brooks was instrumental in Yearwood’s association with MCA Records and longtime producer Garth Fundis.
