Living in the moment. Seizing the day. Inhaling all the positivity. Exhaling the negativity.

Aren’t these words giving you all the feels of a carpe diem moment? Isn’t that the very thing we are here for – to experience life fully? Indeed, one cannot deny the fact that a person can only be contented when he has had everything in life. However, this can be argued as it is impossible to have everything. This then goes to show that however imperfect life is, one can still manage to enjoy it in different ways. And one of these is seizing the moment as it is.

Carpe Diem is best translated into English as “Seize the day.” This strong and liberating message holds: life is now and life will always only be now. The present moment is really all there. So it is to us to take this responsibility for ourselves and seize it fully.

Yet – it also entails the message not to waste a single moment. Giving our all, being the best we could possibly be is what it simply means. It means dropping what still holds us back, dissolving the resistance to what we are and to what could be. Also, it means to free ourselves from what we are not and to set free that what we really are.

One of the best songs that live for this message is Brad Paisley’s “Today.” The title may be the same with John Denver’s “Today” but both have its own message and identity. To tell the truth, both are amazing songs. However, let us talk more about Paisley’s 2017 no. 1 song, which talks about this theme.

“Today”: Living in the Moment

A sentimental song about love and living in the moment, “Today” also points out a significant day in Paisley’s life, which he sings of in the chorus,

The memory of a day like today
Can get you through the rest of your life

In one of his interviews, Paisley revealed that he’s keeping the meaning of the memorable day “under wraps” because he wants listeners to be able to have their own interpretations of it.

In a surprise turn of events, Paisley’s fans showed their support and made their own interpretations of the memorable day. They bombarded and flooded his Facebook page with wedding proposals, first dances at weddings, baby births to name a few.

Paisley is one kind to be loved as he said that he has seen and read all the posts that have popped out on his page.

“I have seen and read the posts and I’m thrilled that the song and video is touching a chord with so many. ‘Today‘ means a lot to me and I’m glad it’s a favorite of so many so soon.”

Song Facts

Released in advance of his Love and War album, Brad Paisley penned this seize-the-moment song with Chris DuBois and Ashley Gorley. Also, he co-produced it with Luke Wooten. It was officially released on October 6, 2016, by Ariza Nashville.

In an interview, Brad Paisley told Billboard magazine that the memorable day he sings was April 17, 2009, the date his son Jasper Warren was born. He then explained,

“My wife [actress Kimberly Williams Paisley] had an emergency C-section, and I go from a birthing suite to scrubs and an operating table. Then I’m handed this child. There’s something about that moment I wouldn’t change for anything.”

To note, Jasper Warren was named after Brad’s grandfather, Warren Jarvis, who bought Paisley his first guitar.
