Triple Play Awards: Thomas Rhett

On February 20, 2018, Thomas Rhett received his very first CMA Triple Play Awards. CMA Triple Play Awards is given to songwriters who penned No. 1 song within the 12 month period. The basis for it is on the Billboard Country Airplay, Country Air Checks, and Billboard Hot Country song charts.

Rhett wrote “Die A Happy Man,” “Star Of The Show,” and “Think A Little Less” in a span of just 12 months. “Think A Little Less” was recorded by Michael Ray.

He also said that he wrote two of his hits “Marry Me” and “Unforgettable” on the same day. Two of these songs are included in his recent album Life Change. His co-writer Ashley Gorge, who also wrote “Unforgettable“, received three trophies for she wrote 9 songs that topped the charts.

Other songwriters who received the Triple Play Awards during the CMA were: Rhett Akins, Ross Copperman, Zach Crowell, Jesse Frasure, Ben Hayslip, Sam Hunt, Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne, Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Brad Tursi, Brad Warren and Brett Warren.

About The Artist

Thomas Rhett, singer, and songwriter, born as Thomas Rhett Akins Jr., on March 30, 1990. He is the son of the country singer Rhett Akins. Even though his father is a country singer, Rhett didn’t plan on following his father’s footstep until he was in his senior year in high school. He landed his first song, “I Ain’t Ready To Quit,” due to this he started performing as a musician. In 2013, his first album to hit the top of the charts was, “It Goes Like This.” The album reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200.

He followed it with “Crash and Burn,” which hit No. 1 on the Billboard’s Country Airplay and No. 2 on the Hot Country Chart. In 2016, “Die a Happy Man,” and “T-shirt” also topped the charts. In 2017, Rhett released his third studio album, Life Changes, which also helped him topped the charts.

Marry Me,” which is one of his single in his album Life Changes, is Rhett’s current hit. Now it peaked at No. 15 this year and remained on the chart for about 14 weeks.

Life Changes is Rhett’s’ third album released last 2017. He named his album as Life Changes because of how his life changed in a short period of time since he started as a country singer. Most of the songs in his album were written while he was on the road.
