Shania Twain Finally Revealed Why Brad Pitt Is In Her Song “That Don’t Impress Me Much”

Since releasing the twangy “That Don’t Impress Me Much” a little over two decades ago, Shania Twain has finally come clean about including actor Brad Pitt’s name in the lyrics.

“Okay, so you’re Brad Pitt. That don’t impress me much. So you got the looks but have you got the touch. Don’t get me wrong, yeah, I think you’re alright. But that won’t keep me warm in the middle of the night. That don’t impress me much,” the song goes.

She went on revealing some other things that don’t impress her, including a few guys who thought they were pretty smart, rocket scientists, people who own cars, and even a guy who carried a mirror in his pocket.

But what is Brad Pitt doing there? Well, it’s nothing personal, Twain said. However, when Pitt’s nude photos sent the world into a frenzy two decades ago, it failed to impress Twain.

“I remember I had a girlfriend visiting me, and it was near Christmas, and we were baking cookies. I was writing this album, and there was a scandal of him and Gwyneth [Paltrow] where there were naked photos of him,” Twain recalled. At that time, Playgirl magazine had published naked pictures of Pitt and his then-girlfriend, Paltrow. Later on, Pitt sued the magazine for publishing the paparazzi photos that made them pull out the issue.

The major scandal created so much buzz in showbusiness, and Twain couldn’t get what’s the fuss is all about. “I’m like, well, that don’t impress me much, I mean, what is all the fuss. We see people naked every day. That’s really what I thought,” she added. “I wasn’t picking on Brad Pitt. But that was just the association in that moment and things we make fusses about and whatever. Of course, it could have been any gorgeous guy.”

One of Shania Twain’s Biggest Hits

“That Don’t Impress Me Much” was written by Shania Twain and her then-husband and producer, Robert John “Mutt” Lange. It was released as the sixth country single, and seventh single overall, off Twain’s third studio album, Come On Over in 1998.

The country singer already had seven No. 1 Country hits by the time “That Don’t Impress Me Much” was released, but it still proved more popular to pop audiences, stalling at No. 8 on the Country chart but reaching No. 7 on the Hot 100.

Just in case you’re wondering if Brad Pitt managed to finally impress Shania Twain – well, I’m happy to tell you that he did. “And I must say I’m very impressed by Brad’s wonderful career,” the country singer said. “He’s been getting some great accolades recently, so I’m very proud of Brad. I hope he takes it with the sense of humor that was intended.”
