While I was writing my previous article about The Easter Brothers, I played their songs in the background. Their most popular track, “Thank You Lord for your Blessings on Me” suddenly caught my interest and attention. I believe I heard my father singing this song during occasions but I didn’t put so much attention to it until these days. It’s only now that I realize how simple yet heartfelt the song is.
I am favored, I am blessed
There’s a roof up above me
I’ve a good place to sleep
There’s food on my table
And shoes on my feet
You gave me your love Lord
And a fine family
Thank you Lord, for your blessings on me
Before I became a believer, I was awfully bitter about life. I thought life is so unfair. With loathing, I questioned God’s fairness. I see people having all they’ve got from material possessions to affections and fame, while there are people like me who struggled so much for a little leisure. These observations caused me to be self-dependent, trying to prove to this world that I still can survive without anyone’s help.
New Beginning
Until one day, I met a friend who has a very positive outlook towards life. She opened a space in my heart for gratitude and appreciation for the little and simple things that happen around me. She then introduced me to a Christian world where nothing is more important than having a close relationship with God. My outlook on life slowly changed. I started to recognize the blessings that have long been in my hands.
I look around and see a complete family that many children don’t have. We have small properties and livelihood which are good enough to supply our daily needs. And though I don’t get everything that I want, I have true friends who stay with me through the thick and thins of my journey. I found a new bliss that fuels me to walk through the day to day challenges.
The best reminder I have for myself is that I have a Father, who owns everything and can give anything. Whatever I may want, which will do well for me and anyone around me, He surely will provide at the most appropriate time. It’s all about waiting for the right time, and while we wait for our hopes and dreams to come true, let’s persevere with sincere gratitude flaming in our hearts. Let’s always find reasons to say, “Thank you, Lord, for your blessings on me.”
