“Tennessee Whiskey” Lyrics

Used to spend my nights out in a barroom
Liquor was the only love I’ve known
But you rescued me from reachin’ for the bottom
And brought me back from being too far gone

You’re as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
You’re as sweet as strawberry wine
You’re as warm as a glass of brandy
And honey, I stay stoned on your love all the time

I’ve looked for love in all the same old places
Found the bottom of a bottle always dry
But when you poured out your heart I didn’t waste it
‘Cause there’s nothing like your love to get me high

You’re as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
Tennessee whiskey
Tennessee whiskey

You’re as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
Tennessee whiskey
Tennessee whiskey

Young Couple does Tennessee Whiskey

If you watched the 2015 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, you are probably one of those people who was astounded by Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake’s version of Tennessee Whiskey. Apart from the incredible performance, it was also certified platinum by Recording Industry Association of America.

Of course, the classic country fans would argue that George Jones’ version in 1983 was a better scoring “Tennessee Whiskey” which was in number two spot during that same year after including it on his album Shine On.

However, fans of this song would only remember a fraction of the original version which is from David Allan Coe and he actually had an album of the same name. Unfortunately, Coe’s version only peaked at number 77 making George Jones’ version a front-runner for the best yet.

Clark Beckham who was an alum of Season 14 American Idol definitely gave the song a more personal touch while Madison Ryan makes it more conversational than the classic version. While watching the video, we caught ourselves swaying to “Tennessee Whiskey” while the couple makes it look like they are just having an adorable conversation.

So what did you think about that version? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
