Many of the chaotic events happening in the world today have been there in the Holy Scripture since the ancient times. In the book of Matthew, Jesus said,
And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places (Matt. 24:6-7).
Undeniably, natural calamities, wars, earthquakes, etc. happening in a certain place are often subjects of news and media. And, it seems that these would continue taking place as days go by. If so, then we are all in trouble. The good news is, the Bible also assures us that despite all of this turmoil, God will always be there to protect and save us.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid (John 14:27).
Even in our personal daily lives, we often encounter problems, failures, difficulties, etc. But, these unfortunate events aren’t there to make our lives miserable. At times, they serve as reminders that we have a God who’s always greater than our problems are. Our main duty is to seek Him in our life and trust Him with all our heart.
That’s, in fact, the primary inspiration behind the hymn “’Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus.”
Before going further, let’s listen first to Alan Jackson‘s rendition of the song.
The Author’s Inspiring Story
In 1880, Louisa M.R. Stead, the author of “’Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus” lost her husband to drowning. Despite going through such difficult times, it is startling to know how wonderfully she made use of her personal circumstance. After two years, a hymn that she wrote was published in the Songs of Triumph. It is apparent that her composition was a testimony of God’s special care. During those times that she’s grieving, the Lord has never left her side. Hence, she wrote the hymn in response to the peace she found in trusting Jesus despite her sorrow. For many years, Mrs. Stead went on to serve as a missionary in Africa.
