A Song About Fun & Summer
“All I Want to Do” is an up-tempo song which focuses on a couple. The woman is telling her partner that all she wants to do is love him and for him to love her in return. The song also hints that instead of tending other tasks such as household chores, she just wants them to enjoy each other.
Jennifer Nettles, the duo’s lead vocalist, revealed that “All I Want to Do” is decidedly more upbeat than “Stay.” Hence, bridging the gap between the two singles.
Nettles explains
“It’s fun and lighthearted, and it feels like summer. And where “Stay” left off, with just a guitar and a vocal, this starts off with just a guitar and a vocal. Obviously it kicks in, so you can move yourself around and dance, but I think it’s sort of a nice juxtaposition, but also it shows a bit of an evolution.”
On the other hand, Bobby Pinson also describes the song as
“a simple song about not having to accomplish anything because it’s already accomplished. All you have to do is lay around and enjoy each other.”
