When you’re surrounded by people with high achievements, the pressure is usually intense. And for many, if their family members are into the same field of interest, they most likely follow their path. But such was not the case for the then-22-year-old Tommy Shane Steiner. His parents were rodeo entertainers.
Moreover, his grandfather was a rodeo rider champion and a Cowboy Hall of Fame member. Though he was a Rodeo Hall of Fame member, himself, he had a dream of his own. That is to become a country music singer. Thus, he started touring and performing in Texas club circuits in the late 1990s. He was able to establish a name shortly after and gained the RCA records’ attention. In the spring of 2002, he released his debut record “Then Came the Night” which helped define his country-rock style. His debut single from his debut album “What If She’s an Angel.”

Steiner’s Only Hit Single
Bryan Wayne wrote, “What If She’s an Angel” which became Steiner’s first country single. Released from his debut album in December 2001, the song earned him his first and only Top 10 hit. Specifically, it reached No. 2 on the Hot Country Songs chart in May 2002 on RCA Records Nashville.
“What If She’s an Angel” was also a Top 40 pop hit peaking at No. 39 on Hot 100. Shortly after the song’s release, nearly 100 stations on Billboard panel added the song to their playlists in one week. Such was an indication of the song’s massive appeal to the audience.
Steiner’s Song that Touches
“What If She’s an Angel” is a song that narrates some people who were probably sent from heaven with a great purpose. In the first half of the lyrics, the narrator talks about a man, deprived of financial resources and probably, without a family. But, the protagonist thought in the chorus,
What if he’s angel sent here from Heaven
And he’s making certain that you’re doing your best
To take the time to help one another
Brother are you going to pass that test?
On the latter part, he talks of a girl with a disease who’s trying to hide it with a baseball cap. He said most people who see her might probably ignore or turn their back from her. “But what if you were sitting in her daddy’s shoes?” the singer asked on the last line. Again, in the concluding stanza, the narrator leaves something that’s worth pondering for every listener.
You can go on with your day to day
Trying to forget what you saw in her face
Knowing deep down it could have been her saving grace
What if she’s an angel?
