Country music was well represented at John Lennon’s 75th birthday concert on December 5, 2015. Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, and Chris Stapleton brought a country version of “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away” on stage.  The tribute happened at the New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Kevin Bacon, the night’s master of ceremony, introduced the country outlaws to the famed stage. All dressed in black, Stapleton led the song with the two country legends chiming in the harmonies for the chorus. Their performance took almost four minutes.

The live concert and tribute titled, Imagine: John Lennon 75th Birthday Concert was aired on AMC on December 19. Other performers include Eric Church, Aloe Blacc, Brandon Flowers, Juanes, Sheryl Crow, Pat Monahan, Tom Morello, Peter Frampton,  the Roots, and Steven Tyler.

Lennon’s wife, Yoko Ono, expressed her immeasurable gladness on the output of the show.

“It’s beautiful to see so many wonderful and talented musicians come together for this special show to celebrate John’s birthday. John’s art continues to give hope, light and happiness to generations of people everywhere. His belief that each of us can change the world continues to inspire the human race to believe in themselves, and his influence is everlasting in everyone’s hearts as we all share in the possibilities and power of music.”

John Lennon

The “Imagine” star remains an icon decades after his tragic death. He founded the Beatles, a band that impacted the popular music scene like no other before. Also, he was a smart songwriter and a melodious singer. His genre ranges from folk to ballad, to rock and roll. Paul McCartney, his writing partner, witnessed his passion for penning songs. Lennon left the Beatles in 1969 and later released albums with his wife, Yoko Ono, among others.

One of the biggest news that shocked the world was Lennon’s assassination in New York, outside his apartment building in December 1980. He left us with an enormous legacy, not only as a musician but also as a writer, actor, and activist.

Let John Lennon’s voice serenade you once again with his song, “Imagine.”
