Jesus is with us every single day. No matter how busy we are, he is there to guide us all throughout. Even though we are unable to feel his physical existence, Jesus is close to us. In everything we do, may it be small things or the big ones, he is there all the time. When we are at work, traveling, attending gatherings, eating, dancing, reading, walking, in all we do, or even on our sleep, he is always there. And sometimes, we tend to forget his presence. Despite this, Jesus touches us, he is calling us softly and tenderly.

So, it’s time to answer to his calling. Let’s all realize and listen to him silently and sincerely. Jesus wants us to turn to him even for just a moment. He’s begging for our attention. With this, let’s all listen to “Softly And Tenderly.” This hymn will remind us how Jesus communicate with us through his silent whispers and unfelt existence.

The Story…

Back in time, Will L. Thompson visited his friend Dwight L. Moody in a hospital. At that time, the hospital barred visitors, but Moody insisted Thompson be let in. He then recites

“Will; I would rather have written “Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling” than anything I have been able to do in my whole life.”

These were the lines that inspired Thompson to pen the hymn.

Furthermore, “Softly And Tenderly” was written in 1880 by Will L. Thompson. On the other hand, Thompson was a member of “Churches Of Christ.” Several of his hymns and gospel songs are still being used up to these days. “Softly And Tenderly” is the most famous of all his compositions.

The hymn, then and now, are being sung in churches and religious events. Many artists such as Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, and Kelly Clarkson also recorded their renditions. The utmost interpretation we can perhaps narrate is Alan Jackson’s.

The Lyrics…

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling

Calling for you and for me

See all the portholes

He’s waiting and watching

Watching for you and for me

Come home, come home

You who are weary come home

Earnestly, tenderly Jesus is calling

Calling all sinners, come home.

All for the wonderful love he has promised

Promised for you and for me

Through all our suffering

He has mercy and pardon

Pardon for you and for me

Come home, come home

You who are weary come home

Earnestly, tenderly Jesus is calling

Calling all sinners, come home.
