The late country music singer Daryle Singletary was best remembered for his recordings of traditional country songs. As a matter of fact, his last record American Grandstand, a duet album with Rhonda Vincent, perfectly represents his take on traditional country music. The collection features many classic songs including “After the Fire Is Gone,” “Louisiana Woman Mississippi Man“ and “Golden Ring.” It was indeed an excellent reinterpretation of timeless country songs that were once popularized by country legends.
However, Singletary had also showcased his potential in turning a pop song into a country hit. That specifically sounds true when the “I Let Her Lie” singer covered an international pop hit back in 2000. Just a year earlier, Australian pop duo Savage Garden released “I Knew I Loved You” which became a smash hit all over the world. Taking advantage of this success, Singletary recorded a cover of the song and eventually brought it to the country chart. His version, the lead-off single on his album Now and Again, landed at No. 55 on Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 2000. The singer’s version was a little less refined though he tried his best to stay true to the original.
